Energy-saving project approved for sewage-treatment plant

FAIRFIELD -- The Board of Finance has approved allocating $210,000 from the Water Pollution Control Authority's reserve fund to improve energy efficiency at the sewage-treatment plant on One Rod Highway.

Public Works Director Richard White told the board Tuesday the funding would be used along with a $171,000 grant and a $100,000 no-interest loan from United Illuminating Co. to purchase a new variable speed blower that supplies oxygen to the plant's tanks.

According to White, the $100,000 loan will be repaid within three years -- thanks to energy savings that the new blower will provide.

"We did a similar project two years ago, so we're very confident in the projected savings," White said.

It's estimated the new equipment will save the town about $103,000 annually at the treatment plant.

Vice Chairman Robert Bellitto Jr. questioned if the savings would continue after the loan is paid off, and White assured him that would be the case.

Board member Mary LeClerc asked if there is a risk that the loan might not be approved.

"It's locked in, with respect to an agreement with UI," White said.

Another finance board member, Kenneth Brachfeld, asked if there were any other opportunities for this type of grant.

"The credit goes to Ed Boman, my assistant, who has continually chased down grants," White said. "He's put together (more than) $1 million worth of projects.

"He looks for every opportunity."

The Amateur Family Historian: Family Tree Rebuild Update - 6/10/11

All main branches have been entered back to the earliest ancestor listed in the family histories for that line as shown in my original family tree rebuild post?here.

I am sourcing information from?A Genealogical History of the Kolb, Kulp, or Culp Family for individuals also listed in?A Genealogical History of the Hunsicker Family. Once I have completed this I will begin sourcing all of the original documents I have plus documents I can easily acquire from places such as Ancestry.com.


As I have added the information from the various family histories that even though the source is original (despite the fact that I have copies that have be reproduced either on papter or electronically (or both) I have come to realize that the information is secondary (not primary) in that the authors were reporting second hand information that they found in their research without citing the source. Therefore, until I find a primary source or several secondary sources of information I will consider these facts as unproven.?

Important Note: Before you submit your manuscript anywhere, be sure you own all the publication rights. That means carefully reviewing any agreements you made with anyone who may have contributed to your book. If you don?t have full rights and you go ahead and publish, you might end up on the wrong side of a lawsuit.
